Reach Counseling Services began as the Rape Crisis Center of Winnebago County in the mid-1970's. In 1978, the agency incorporated as a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of sexual abuse, incest and rape, and to offer advocacy and support to victims. By 1984, the agency was providing both sexual abuse and domestic violence services throughout the county. At that time, it was decided a shelter was needed for victims and families who suffered domestic abuse. A grant was written and Regional Domestic Abuse Services opened its doors later that year. With the separation of sexual and domestic violence, this agency began refocusing on the needs of victims, families and offenders of sexual violence.
As part of our continuing commitment to the health and well-being of the Fox Valley community, this agency became a licensed mental health clinic in 1993. This significant change enabled us to provide long term therapeutic services to individuals suffering from mental health issues who were also victims of sexual abuse, incest or sexual assault. This classification enabled the agency to expand services to child victims of sexual and domestic violence, adult trauma survivors, and affected family members throughout Winnebago, Calumet and Outagamie Counties. With licensed mental health clinicians on staff, who specialize in trauma informed care we are able to provide best practices treatment to all who come through our doors.
Since 1980, Reach has provided school based prevention education services to pubic and private schools throughout Winnebago County, and community based education to businesses, faith-based and private organizations. We provide medical, legal, and personal support to victims through our trained advocates and volunteers. Across the Fox Valley we offer outreach to Native American and Latino victims, and maintain a full-time advocate on the University of WI-Oshkosh campus. In the late 1970's we became pioneers in the field of sex offender treatment and today are considered one of the premier community based sex offender treatment programs in this state. In the years since our inception, Reach Counseling Services has helped thousands of victims and educated tens of thousands of children and adults. As a grassroots organization, this agency remains responsive to community needs, providing comprehensive services to meet local concerns. Healing, prevention and community awareness remain the foundation of our services.
